Everything is a reflection of self

Everything is a reflection of self. Nothing is happening to us, only because of us.

When we reach this level of awareness, we understand that where we are at in life, where we’ve been, and where we are going is our responsibility. Should we accept this, life is that much more enjoyable. We can become more responsive and emotionally level, as opposed to reactive and out of control. Yes, life will happen, and yes, most things are out of our control, but we will always have a choice on the direction our life goes when we hit that critical moment. That critical moment can lead us to happiness, or drive us down a road filled with struggle. That critical moment can be the beginning of something new, or the continuance of something filled with blame, complaining and excuses. That critical moment is yours for the taking. What are you going to decide to do? No one else can decide for you.

Dream as if you couldn’t fail

Today everyone, I challenge you to dream as if you couldn’t fail, to dream big. To never, never, never give up on your goals and dreams no matter how many times you get knocked down. To make the commitment to be more, to strive and do something different. To not be average. To not be realistic. To do even when you do not want to do. To stand for what you believe in everyday, even if you are the only one in your corner. To simply do whatever it takes. Impossible

Note that it will not be easy, that life will throw many challenges your way and that you will be tested day in and day out, but do realize that you can do it. It’s your goal to help as many people as you can, to strive and create something bigger than yourself. Embrace failure because it is a good thing. You are only a failure if you quit. Be grateful and love thy neighbor as thyself. Until next time, “Live each day as if it were your last because surely one day, it will be”

This is your time, this is your opportunity…Go take it.

Today is the day that you step back and put things in perspective. Sometimes, we never have the chance to re-evaluate where we are at, until we realize we are not where we want to be. I like to ask people what they would do if they could do anything and never have to worry about how they were going to get by, or pay the bills. Some people get so excited, while others its a reminder of how off track they really are with achieving their dreams. Some people don’t even have dreams, or goals and I’d say this, how can you go anywhere if you don’t know where you are going?. Regardless, of where you are at in life, you can always get back on track…that is, if you want it bad enough. The truth is not whether we want to accomplish our dreams, but that we believe it is too late, or that we don’t have what it takes to do it. In many cases, we actually stack the odds against ourselves.

Whatever you believe you can obtain, you can…a definite of purpose is all you need. Does it take courage? Absolutely. Is there some risk involved? Most certainly. The word that comes to mind is legacy. How do you want to be remembered. There was an article written that outlined a pretty intense statistic. Let me share it with you. On average, less than 10 people will actually cry at your funeral. Get this…if it is raining outside about 50% of the people will not show up at your burial. My point is, it’s time to stop caring what people think you can do. The only thing that matters is what you think you can do. If you believe it to be true, it is…if you believe you can’t your right.

I believe that one of the most powerful qualities in any person is their personal belief in who they are and what they do. Those who can stand strong to their word will go very far. This also accounts for what you do when others are not watching. A good mentor of mine, Mr. Eric Thomas said that when it comes down to it, what you have left at the end of the day is your character. Money can be made back, trust in your character is not always refundable. When it comes to belief, if your are willing to do whatever it takes to be successful at something, that will take you far. There is much more to it. Someone who quits in sports, business, relationships, is quitting on themselves. Be true to your word. If you say you are going to do something, do it. Saying one thing and doing another is bound to lead you away from true success.

Have you ever heard the saying that, “Eagles don’t swim with ducks”? There is a ton of merit to this saying. Those who you hang around are bound to influence you. You are who you hang out with. If the people around you are negative and downplaying life, it will rub off on you. Personally, I make it a habit to hang around positive, uplifting people. I used to think that I could do this, but I found that when I stay in the same environment, I get the results. I’m not saying that you should completely abandon those you care about, but the decision to hang around them less may be supportive to where you want to go.

I truly have a passion for helping people. I make it a habit to help others, but others must want to help themselves first. Changes is simple. You just decide that you have had enough, that where you are is not where you want to be, that you want more out of life…I would tell you to go out and take it. If you are getting the same results in life, you must do something different. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. If you want something different in life and are not willing to change, I hate to break it to you, but you will definitely have a challenging time getting there. Being around like-minded is hands down the way to success. Let’s say you wanted to be a successful hockey player (I’m biased because I have been playing hockey my entire life), if you wanted to be the best would you hang around those who were below your skill level? You can, but is it supportive to your growth as a player? I know it feels great to be the best player on the ice, but if you are always the best player on the ice, there is less incentive to better yourself. The truth is that growth comes from putting ourself into uncomfortable environments. If you want to be the best you can, play, learn and watch those who are where you want to be. When it comes to playing hockey, I make an effort to play against the best on the ice because that is how I get better.

The last thing I want to talk about is that of being open-minded. Think of it this way, the mind is like a parachute, it only works when it is open. Now you may be asking, what does this mean? What does that have to do with anything? It has everything to with getting to where you want to go. We have been taught to believe that we have to wait till we are 65 to retire (it’s actually probably higher than that). I’ll be the first to tell you that I love what I do and I plan on working and investing in others for the rest of my life, but the industrial way of thinking is over. Why wait till you are 65 to retire? If you think about it, once you retire, you expire. My point is that it’s important to have an open mind and be willing to learn new things and engage in new opportunities. If you are not doing what you love, it may be time to take a second look at things. Life is meant to be enjoyed and if you are close-minded, I can bet that you have turned away many new exciting opportunities in life without even knowing it. Be open to do new things, to meet new people and more importantly, a new way of life. Take advantage of every opportunity to better yourself and above all else, make it a habit to help as many people as you can. For me, it’s all about helping others. I’ll leave you with a great quote from an amazing mentor, Zig Ziglar, “If you help enough people get what they want, you will get everything you want”. Until next time, we’ll talk to you later. Be grateful for everything you have and more importantly, have fun.

Discipline Your Disciplines

I’ve thought a lot about the whole idea of discipline and what it means to me. More importantly, I think that it’s important to ask yourself what it is you want to do and discipline yourself so you can get there. I’m very intrigued by success and what do people do to have success in their life. This is not just a money thing, but the overall success to each of us, which if I had to break it down means, “Are you doing what you want to do” and “Are you accomplishing what you set out to accomplish.” Now if you don’t know what you want, more often than not, you will not find it. It’s that simple. I’ve been thinking a lot about discipline lately and how it truly relates to success. Now get this…What it takes to be successful in life will not be handed to you, you need to go out and take it. Both unsuccessful and successful have common ground in what it takes to be successful. Both understand it’s hard, that they are going to have to make it happen, sometimes without any reward, but the difference is that unsuccessful people do not do anything and successful people do it! When I think of success I see discipline…lots of it. You need to be discipline in what you do, what you say and how you lead your life, even when the pull from the outside is wanting you to give in.

The pull from the outside is not unusual and more often than not it is not intentional. When you are doing something different, you will feel the pull to come back in. Do not do this! Be disciplined! All success comes with adversity. If you are not facing challenges on a daily basis you will keep going in the same direction. Only when you discipline yourself and push forward will you get to where you want to go. This is something that I battled and to this day still do and as tough as the decision of discipline may be, it’s needed if you want to get anywhere.

So keep grinding, keep going, stay strong and always trust yourself to get where you want to go. Believe that you can, believe that you will because the only person who gets you anywhere is the one who looks back at you in the mirror.

The End Of An Age Breeds Another For Those That Take It

Change is inevitable. It happens to us all. For things to change you must change. What “was” even 10 years ago does not apply today, but many of us still end up getting caught in the race…the “rat race”.

In sports you want to learn from the best right? To be great at anything would you go to someone who is great at what you want to do, or would you go to someone who is where you are at currently? The answer is easy…learn from the best. Ask yourself this…”Who are you learning from and are they where you want to go?” If no, it’s time for change.

The idea that you must work until you are 62, then retire is obsolete. We were all taught that as kids (at least most of us), you must go to school, get good grades (I have been a C, some B’s, student my entire life), get a good job and maybe retire when we are older. For some, that is not an option. If that is what you want to do, I respect that entirely, but it’s not for me and maybe you agree. Maybe you are wanting something different. You know what, you can do it! Everyone one of us has what it takes to do whatever we want to do, but we settle. Don’t settle. Go out and do great things, help people, be the difference, take risks, fall down, learn to fail (and when you do so, get back to it), keep an open mind and NEVER settle.

There is opportunity for everyone who is willing to step up and take it. For those that sit back and watch, things will continue to be the same. It’s time to make a difference and help others. Don’t wait for things to happen, make it happen. Don’t wait for people to change, change yourself. Don’t wait for anything, go out and just do it! Check out this video, it really drives home the idea of what it really takes to make things happen.
